How I Chose the Best Bamboo Sheets

I was fortunate enough to test close to a dozen different brands and styles of bamboo sheets throughout the year.

It didn’t take long to notice that some were significantly better than others. However, unlike other types of bedding I’ve tried before, bamboo sheets needed a bit more in-depth research before I could narrow down the list.

After thorough research, I finally decided to base my results on four main factors:

  • Softness: How they felt, breathability
  • Comfort: Type of fabric, thread count, size and fit
  • Durability: Easy to care for, quality of stitching
  • Overall Value: Price compared to other brands, warranty, sleep trial length

What I Didn’t Consider

When shopping for bamboo sheets, you’ll notice many companies make claims about their products that just can’t be verified. I tried contacting many of them, and the customer service reps were clueless most of the time.

So, I didn’t take into consideration the following claims:

  • Health benefits: Help with allergies, prevent dust mites
  • Material type: Viscose, rayon, organic
  • Manufacturing process: Environmentally conscious, material sourcing

Companies have been caught using false and misleading labels when it comes to bamboo textile products. So, I tried to look past their claims and relied on my research and experience, when testing their sheets.

Unless they were OEKO-TEX or Certified Organic (GOTS), I didn’t take the companies claims seriously and focused more on quality and overall value instead.

Reviews of the Best Bamboo Sheets for 2021

Here’s an in-depth look at each of my top five picks for best bamboo sheets in 2021. I’ll start with the overall winner and go down the list.

Best Overall: Layla Bamboo Sheets

The first thing that I noticed about these sheets was how soft they were. They feel buttery and smooth against your skin, kind of like silk. The fabric is also breathable and cool. These were my favorite bamboo sheets to sleep on during the summer.

The fitted sheet has deep enough pockets to fit my Pillow-top Queen Mattress, and it stays in place without bunching up or coming undone at the sides.

Another notable feature of the Layla sheets is their durability. Even after four washes, they are still as soft as when they were new. I also haven’t had any issues with fading or loose stitching, like some cheaper bamboo sheets. They come with a 120-Night Sleep Trial and a five-year warranty if any problem arises later on.

As for value, they weren’t the cheapest or most expensive sheets in my review. But I got them with a coupon for around $150 during their Memorial Day sale.

What I liked:

  • Soft
  • Cool
  • Breathable
  • Durable
  • 120 Night Sleep Trial

What I didn’t like:

  • Price could be better
  • Only available in White or Grey (I prefer dark colors)

Overall, the Layla Sleep Bamboo Sheets are my number one choice for 2021! They are soft and breathable with a silky feel. They’re also easy to care for and come with an extended sleep trial along with a five-year warranty!

Cariloha ClassicRunner-Up: Cariloha Classic Bamboo Sheets

Another set of bamboo sheets that passed with flying colors are the Classic by Cariloha. Their softness is only matched by the higher-end Resort style. However, the Classic bamboo sheets are much lighter and cooler to sleep in.

Cariloha has been around for a very long time, making all sorts of bamboo products. They are one of the few companies I trust when it comes to quality materials and ethical sourcing. They make their bamboo sheets in Turkey, which is known for producing the highest quality textiles.

The fitted sheets have an all-around elastic so they never came undone. The stitching is also solid with no loose threads. However, they do wrinkle a bit, even after the first wash.

What I liked:

  • Soft
  • Lightweight
  • High-quality
  • All-around elastic
  • Plenty of colors to choose from

What I didn’t like:

  • Short warranty
  • Wrinkles after drying

Overall, the Cariloha Classic bamboo sheets are some of the softest on this list. They are breathable and lightweight with an all-around elastic to ensure they never come undone.

Pure Bamboo SheetsBest Value: Pure Bamboo Sheets

When doing my research, I couldn’t find much information on the company “Pure Bamboo.” But their bamboo sheets were one of the best-sellers on Amazon, so I had to give them a try.

At the time, they were only around $99 for the Queen size and a bit more for a King size. Compared to the other sets I reviewed, that was pretty cheap, and I didn’t know what to expect.

When I first opened the package, I noticed a faint chemical smell to them. Even though the label said “100% Bamboo Viscose”, they may actually be “Bamboo Rayon”. Companies use these terms loosely, and there isn’t much oversight when it comes to labeling overseas. However, the sheets did feel soft and smooth with a hint of stretch.

The feature I found to be most surprising was the quality of stitching. It was double-stitched with sturdy seams. The bamboo pillowcases also have an envelope pocket to prevent them from slipping off your pillows.

What I liked:

  • Soft
  • Stretchy
  • Fairly priced
  • Envelope pocket pillowcases
  • No-Pilling

What I didn’t like:

  • Chemical odor (went away after a few minutes in the dryer)
  • Questionable label

Overall, the sheets from Pure Bamboo are a great value at under $100 for Queen. They’re soft and smooth with an added stretch making them very comfortable. If you decide to try them out, keep in mind they will have a chemical odor for a few minutes after you open them.

Cariloha ResortMost Luxurious: Cariloha Resort

As far as the most luxurious bamboo sheets, I had to choose the Resort Sheets by Cariloha. Unlike the other sheets I’ve reviewed, these were noticeably thicker and had a luscious sheen to them.

I contacted Cariloha to find out why these felt so different compared to their Classic ones. It turns out they have a whopping 400 TC (thread count) compared to the 230 TC with the Classic!

Their price was also luxurious, costing around $250 for the Queen set off of Amazon. And the price on their site wasn’t any lower!

Besides that, every other aspect was very similar to the Classic sheets.

What I liked:

  • Luxurious
  • Soft
  • Thick

What I didn’t like:

  • Short warranty
  • Pricey

Even though the Cariloha Resort sheets are luxurious, I found other sheets that were just as soft. But if you’re looking for higher-quality bamboo sheets, these may be worth the price tag!

Buyer’s guide

Below are a few features to look for when shopping for the perfect set of bamboo sheets.

Softness: The softest bamboo sheets are perfect if you enjoy pampering yourself in luxury. Bamboo viscose sheets are as soft and luxurious as silk but without the hefty price tag.

Durable: Genuine bamboo sheets are very durable and last for many years. Want to extend the life of your bamboo sheets?

Cooler: Bamboo sheets are some of the “Coolest Sheets” you can find. They help regulate temperature and wick away moisture from sweat, as you sleep.

Frequently asked questions:

There are a lot of questions and myths about bamboo sheets, and I wanted to address some of the most common ones:

Are bamboo sheets good?

Bamboo sheets are an excellent choice for many reasons. The best part about them is their softness. It’s hard to imagine how soft they are until you’ve tried them.

Are bamboo sheets worth it?

The quality of sleep you get makes them worth the extra few bucks you have to pay compared to cotton sheets. You can find bamboo sheets starting from $50 on Amazon!

What is wrong with bamboo sheets?

Companies give bamboo sheets a bad name by using false labels and bogus health claims. I wouldn’t recommend them unless they were OEKO-TEX or GOTS certified.

Conclusion

Bamboo sheets are a great option for people who want to switch from cotton or linen. They’re soft and comfortable, cool in the summer and warm in winter, breathable like silk but more durable than any other fabric on the market.

The best bamboo sheets I found were: Cariloha Resort (most luxurious), Layla Sleep (best overall), Pure Bamboo (the best value), and Plush Beds (softest). However, it’s important that when buying them online look for the OEKO-TEX certification or GOTS to avoid being disappointed.
