Best Queen Mattresses Under $200

1. Best Overall; Zinus Green-Tea Infused

This is the perfect queen mattress for anyone on a budget and doesn’t want to spend more than $200.

When I tested it, I found it to be really comfortable and supportive. The best thing about this Zinus mattress is it’s infused with green tea cooling gel. I don’t know what the green tea is for, but the gel did make a difference in how cool I felt at night. So, no more waking up to sweaty sheets or an uncomfortable night of tossing and turning.

The Zinus gel memory foam mattress comes with an impressive 10-year warranty which gives you complete peace of mind! This is great and the fact that it’s also made in the USA is an extra bonus.

The materials are CertiPur US Certified, meaning they’re non-toxic, eco-friendly and free from harmful substances.

The one downside is that some people might find the mattress to be too firm for their liking. Other than that, it’s a great purchase for those on a budget who don’t mind the firmness!

2. Runner-Up; Linenspa Gel Memory Foam Mattress

Overall, the Linenspa Gel Memory Foam Mattress is a great value for money. We loved that there was plenty of support and we didn’t feel like we were sinking into the bed, but we also felt like we got the pressure point relief that we needed. Side sleepers will be happy with this mattress as it seems to hug your body and curves in all the right places, making you feel enveloped by the mattress.

The only thing we would change about this mattress is removing some of the smell. It took about 3 days for the smell to dissipate and during those 3 days, it made our bedroom smell awful! It wasn’t unbearable or overpowering, but something you will need to consider before you purchase this mattress.

Also, note that to get the queen size for less than $200, you will have to choose the 5-inch thick version. It was fine for my size, which is average, but consider a thicker one if you want a softer mattress. Also, be prepared to go over your $200 budget.

3. Best Hybrid; Signature Design by Ashley

The Signature Design by Ashley Chime mattress is the best 8-inch queen mattress for around $200. Depending on whether it’s on sale or not, you should expect to pay a little over 200, but not much. However, you’re getting a lot of value for a little bit more money.

I liked how it was firm and comfortable without being too hard or too soft. This model is a little heavier than the others we reviewed, mainly because of the thicker layers. So, you may need more than one person to move it around.

It comes rolled up and compressed, but the company does a great job at protecting it so it doesn’t break or get damaged during shipping. As soon as you receive it, just open the packaging and leave it alone for 72 hours so it can expand and air out.

Overall, the quality of the Signature Design by Ashley Chime is great for the price! You’ll be hard-pressed to find a mattress that’s better in this price range.

4. Best for Kids;  Olee Sleep

This is a great option for anyone looking for a cheap queen mattress for around $200. It is kind of firm, in my opinion, but the I-Gel layer adds some softness and support for your back.

It measures almost 7-inches thick and the memory foam layers help with pressure points if you’re a side-sleeper. It has a soft Jacquard cover with extra stitching along the edges to prevent any tears. You can even remove it and wash it as needed.

The only thing we didn’t like about this mattress is that it does have a smell when you first open the box. It wasn’t as bad as some I’ve experienced, but still not great. It also feels cheaper than the other mattresses we tested in this article.

Overall, I would recommend the Olee mattress as an extra guest mattress or for kids that will outgrow it and replace it with a better quality one.

5. Best All-Natural; Smith & Oliver

Smith & Oliver is the only queen mattress available under $200 that is made with all-natural materials. You really can’t tell it’s all-natural unless you’ve opened up one of the other brands and smelled them both.

Since it has both the coil system and the memory foam, the top layer is quite thin. You might ultimately want to add a mattress pad over it for a softer and more comfortable night’s sleep.

Besides those two points, it has a perfect firmness for back and stomach sleepers. The memory foam allows your body to sink deep enough but not too much.

This is a great buy if you want a natural mattress that won’t break the bank, but we do recommend adding a mattress pad over the top of it.

Ultimate Buyer’s Guide to the Best Queen Mattresses Under $200

There aren’t too many queen mattresses that cost less than $200. Our buyer’s guide will give you all the information you need to find the perfect mattress for a comfortable sleep at an affordable price.

Price:

The size of the mattress will ultimately determine its price. That’s why it’s so difficult finding a queen mattress for so cheap. Most of them cost over $200 because of the amount of material involved in making them.

Thickness:

The thickness of the mattress is another essential factor that determines how expensive or cheap it may be. Most companies will sacrifice thickness by reducing the number of layers they use. Queen mattresses that cost less than $200 average between 6 and 8 inches, while more expensive ones will be 10 inches or thicker.

Size:

Although we only focused on queen mattresses in our article, you still want to make sure you’re getting the correct size. It will only take a few minutes to measure the size of your bed frame and avoid the hassle of returning an incorrect size.

Warranty:

Don’t think that just because a mattress is cheap that it’s not durable. You still want to make sure you’re getting one with an extended warranty, at least ten years if possible. Any mattress larger than a twin will wear out more quickly, and you might be looking to replace it sooner than you think.

Sleep Position:

Mattresses come in many different levels of firmness, and every sleep position will require a different one. Side sleepers will need a thicker and softer mattress, while back and stomach sleepers prefer thinner and firmer models.

Sleep Trial:

You’re probably going to be shopping online, which means you’re going to have a tough time trying out the mattress before buying. You never know how it will feel or if it’ll last until you’ve already bought it and taken it home. Make sure any company offering a sleep trial allows you at least 100 nights from the time of purchase to make your decision!

Materials:

Not every queen mattress under $200 will be made of the same materials. There are several different types of materials, and each one is designed for a specific purpose. I’ll mention a few of them below.

  • Latex- Latex is hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, anti-microbial, and biodegradable. It is a good choice for people with allergies or respiratory problems who want a natural mold and mildew-resistant material.
  • Memory Foam- Memory foam provides full-body support and is excellent for relieving pressure points. It is comfortable and affordable but not as durable as the other types of materials listed here. Memory foam also traps heat, which can make it uncomfortable during hot summer days.
  • Spring- Pocketed coils are a very popular choice because they offer firmness with bounce. The coils are individually wrapped, so you can adjust the level of firmness you want. Because each coil is apart from the other, they do not transfer motion as easily as other materials, making for a very quiet mattress.
  • Bamboo- Bamboo is a natural and sustainable material that has many positive characteristics. It is hypoallergenic, resistant to molds and mildew, and offers breathable comfort. But don’t expect to find any queen-sized bamboo mattresses that are even close to $200.

Final Thoughts

Finding the perfect queen mattress for less than $200 isn’t easy, but it is possible! You’ll have to settle for a thinner mattress made with lighter material. And you will be restricted to buying from sites like Amazon.

But when on a budget of less than $200, these mattresses are much better than sleeping on the floor!
